Overview

As the User Experience Design Consultant for TutorHive, I led the UX redesign of their web app, focusing on improving the sign-up process for a diverse user base, including students, parents, and tutors.

I worked closely with the founders and the CTO, who acted as the Product Owner and liaison between myself and a team of developers. This involved conducting a comprehensive UX audit to identify pain points and refining the user journey, ensuring a smoother and more efficient user experience.

Challenge

The challenge was to transform TutorHive's complex sign-up and profile completion process into a seamless and engaging experience. This included redesigning key touchpoints to reduce user drop-offs, creating tailored flows for different user profiles, and enhancing overall engagement to support a more user-centric platform.

Outcome

What was once a complex process requiring direct intervention from the founders is now streamlined and user-friendly, allowing new users to complete their sign-up independently. This transformation has led to significant growth for TutorHive, with increased user adoption and engagement since the new process was implemented.

Walking in the user’s shoes

I conducted a thorough review of the existing sign-up process by experiencing it firsthand as a user. The objective was to pinpoint areas of confusion, inefficiency, or poor user experience. I documented potential improvements for simplifying and enhancing each step to make the process more intuitive and user-friendly.

Design an intuitive sign-up journey that minimises drop-offs?

From the ground-up: rebuilding the user journey

We identified the essential elements of the sign-up process and began designing clear and intuitive user flows. The aim was to distil the user journey to its core components and rebuild it from scratch, creating a streamlined experience that aligns business objectives with user needs.

Crafting the new experience

I took the insights and ideas and used them to develop the final design of the sign-up process. The result was an adaptive design that customises the experience based on the user type—whether a parent, student, or tutor—ensuring a more tailored and relevant onboarding experience for each.

Testing and validating the design

We conducted user testing with over 10 parents and tutors to gather feedback and validate the new design. The unanimous response was highly positive, confirming that the updated design made the experience significantly clearer and more intuitive.

A step by step, clearer sign-up journey

After three months of dedicated effort, we’ve crafted a seamless sign-up process designed for the unique needs of TutorHive’s users.

Each user will enjoy a personalised experience, with tailored language and support to help them set up their account and embark on their TutorHive journey with ease.
